The Local Sport Profile provides local authorities (and other local organisations) with a profile of up-to-date data for their local area, covering sports participation, facilities, health, economic and demographics, all in one place.
It is a vital tool for local authorities and other partners working in community sport, which can be used to inform strategic planning and development of sporting opportunities and demonstrate the value of sport to other sectors. The tool also presents benchmarking opportunities by providing useful regional, national and 'nearest neighbour' comparators.
The data is taken from a variety of sources including Sport England's Active People Survey and Active Places, the Department of Health and the Office of National Statistics (refer to Data Guidance section for further details). This tool was last updated in August 2016. Please note that where Active People Survey (APS) data refers to 2015/16 data, this covers the period April 2015 to March 2016 (Active People Survey 10 Q2).
Data is arranged by 'theme'. The themes include Demographics (population data), Health, Participation, Sporting Facilities and Economy. Within these themes there are different 'indicators' (or measures) which can be selected.
The Local Sport Profile tool provides a wide range of data for your local area, including Sport England's Active People Survey data. If you would like to interrogate the Active People Survey data further, please visit Active People Interactive, which enables users to analyse Active People data in detail.
Following consultation with users, in 2015 Sport England developed the Local Sport Profile tool into a web-based tool. We are keen to gather opinions from users about how the new tool has been received.
